Some Great Commercials For Valentine’s Day

For Valentines, spend some time
with something you REALLY love: great ads

If you love ads, it’s not who you love it’s what you love. And we know you really love good work. Get cozy with Rethink & Molson’s “The Canadians” – a valentine from the world to the people of Canada. Lowe Roche and client Heart & Stroke present a compelling reason why the time to show yourself some love is now. Not later. It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without some fresh meat in this clever spot from Red Urban and Volkswagen. And it’s not exactly hearts and flowers between two motorists as Blammo Worldwide and Project Winter Survival reminds us to share the warmth this winter.

Editor Mick Griffin honoured with Fritz Spiess Award

Congratulations Rooster Post Production senior editor/partner Mick Griffin
on being honoured with the Spiess Award for Lifetime Achievement in Television Advertising at last week’s 2012 Bessies Awards. The Spiess Award is given to a person who has furthered the excellence of TV advertising in Canada throughout their career. The award is presented to a cameraperson, director, producer, editor, compositor, art director, copywriter, creative director, advertiser or anyone in the TV advertising community whose contributions have been continuing and of the highest order.

Here’s a look at the announcement film that preceded the presentation – it was written and directed by Rooster Post Production colleague and 1998 Spiess Award recipient, Richard Unruh . According to Mick, “It’s a wonderfully concise and illuminating little film, it makes what I do seem magical and important.”

He’s cut for Guy Ritchie, Kathryn Bigelow, Lance Acord, James Gartner and Errol Morris. Yes, you could say our newest editor is a bit of a peacock.

British-born Marc Langley, one of the USA’s top editors, has flown the American coop, and has landed at Toronto’s Rooster Post Production. Marc joins us as senior editor. He has already been busy cutting spots for agency Juniper Park & client Tropicana, and is busy prepping his next project at Rooster. Recent work also features Hallmark for Leo Burnett Chicago.

Target Marketing TV Campaign Wins 2012 Cassie Awards Grand Prix

They say everyone has their 5 minutes of fame, but for Rooster Post Production editor Mick Griffin, his five minutes has spanned a very long and successful career. Both Mick Griffin and Rooster’s sister shop, Track & Field VFX have also enjoyed a long and very successful collaboration with the 2012 Cassies Grand Prix award-winning ad agency Target Marketing and their client, Newfoundland/Labrador Tourism. Launched in 2009, the campaign, “Find Yourself” also won a Cassies GOLD in the Sustained Success category and has enjoyed winning many major awards since its launch. Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to this much loved campaign over the years. See Mick Griffin’s current reel here.

Genuine and Uncomplicated: New Commercial Work for Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism

“Iceberg Alley” and “Secret Place” represent the latest television commercial chapters in the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism ‘Find Yourself’ campaign. A story that resonates with travellers seeking experiences that go far beyond the packaged, often cookie-cutter tourism offered elsewhere. These stunning spots, shot by Sons and Daughters director/cameraman Alar Kivilo are the latest in a collaboration with Rooster editor Mick Griffin, Alter Ego colourist Eric Whipp and Track & Field VFX’s online artists Ernie Mordak & Andrew Rolfe.
