Proulx’s “KAZ: Pushing The Virtual Divide” Changes The Game On iTunes

KAZPaul Proulx has always had an ear for sound. And now his work has crossed-over the commercial divide and is being shared on iTunes. Sony PlayStation has released the soundtrack to the Proulx-edited film, “KAZ: Pushing The Virtual Divide” on iTunes for purchase. KAZ is a recent Tamir Moscovici/Paul Proulx collaboration, commissioned by Sony PlayStation. The feature-length film documents the passion and creative drive of Kazunori Yamauchi, the genius behind video game giant, Gran Turismo. Screen Shot 2014-06-12 at 9.26.03 AMProulx is a recent addition to the Rooster Post Production line-up. Tamir Moscovici is a director with Spy Films.

Through the support of PlayStation, KAZ showcases the journey that forever changed the gaming and automotive landscape, as it redefined how people perceive the relationship between art, entertainment and culture. The film has already gained traction on the awards-front, winning Gold at the Gaming Marketing Summit and a Merit at The One Show.

Proulx and Moscovici knew how integral music would be to the storytelling; the right score would add another critical layer of emotional resonance and texture. Pirate Toronto’s Juno award-winning music directors/composers me&john, (Ryan Kondrat and John LaMagna) leapt at the opportunity to work on this unique project. Says Kondrat, “Tamir and Paul never dictated, and always asked our opinion. We were able to stamp who we are artistically on the project, and the end result felt like a true collaboration. This is what happens when you let creatives do their thing.”

When asked if they had any concerns about working on a branded content film, LaMagna said, “We’re extremely excited that this kind of thing can happen today. We think branded content films are a glimpse of what’s to come in the ad world, and we were thrilled that while it was funded by Sony, it didn’t infringe on the creative process. We’ve worked on movies that didn’t give us the same freedom. Ultimately, it was a marketing tool that felt like a creative project. We wanted the songs to feel like real songs, and it feels great to have an ‘ad’ record be legitimately recognized in the music community.””

KAZ has been suggested by Strategy Magazine, to be in the running as a likely contender in the Film – Branded Content category at the 2014 Cannes Lions. Also in the running is another Rooster Post Production project for Red Urban and Volkswagen Canada, “Once More: The Story of VIN 903847” VIN was directed by Untitled Film’s Hubert Davis and edited by Rooster Post’s Paul Jutras.

Rooster Post Is Game As Traditional Advertising Embraces Branded Content

Screen Shot 2014-03-07 at 1.26.36 PMAn interesting read on how some Canadian brands have taken their branded content to the next level. What does it take to really break through? It looks like great creative is still the way to go.

We’re pleased that they’ve included 4 projects that we worked on: Dave De Carlo & Drew Stevenson for Dempster’s, Marc Langley for Molson’s Beer Fridge, Paul Jutras for Volkswagen’s Once More: The Story of VIN 903847 and Dave De Carlo for VW Beetle 3 Track – Gang of Rhythm.
