Editors Marc Langley & Michelle Czukar Celebrate National Canadian Film Day 150

On April 19th, to help promote and drive participation in National Canadian Film Day 150 in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, Reel Canada, the non­profit that hosts NCFD, is launching a Canada-wide campaign developed by Leo Burnett Toronto.

The campaign kicks off with two cinema spots that came together with the help of Canadian film industry icons. “The Woman Who Can’t Lie” was directed by Don McKellar and stars Sandra Oh. “The Man Who Was Always Late” was directed by Atom Egoyan and stars Vinay Virmani. The spots are edited by Marc Langley (“The Woman Who Can’t Lie”) and Michelle Czukar (“The Man Who Was Always Late”). This was a fun project, one that we’re proud to have played a part in.

Izzy Helps DDB Canada & Dairy Farmers Of Canada Cry Over Spilled Milk

This latest creative effort for DDB Canada and Dairy Farmers of Canada takes us to a fancy dinner party where the guests are frozen in time, but their tears are very real. Editor Izzy Ehrlich and OPC director Matt Devine collaborate, slowing down the narrative time while keeping the visual narration flow steady and dynamic. The camera weaves its way down the dinner table, revealing each guest as they cry over spilled milk.

Michelle Czukar: New Work for john st. and President’s Choice

#EatTogether
The craft of editing can take you to places you’ve never been, or take you on an emotional journey that you were never expecting. Such is the case with this collaboration from editor Michelle Czukar and Radke director Michael Clowater for john st. and client Loblaw Cos. Ltd. A highly creative editor, Michelle knows how to take storytelling to the next level. Through the magic of editing, she brings us into an apartment hallway, while sharing the story of a group of neighbours from different backgrounds who come together for an impromptu meal.

The 2-minute-and-thirty-second film was shown this past Sunday, during the National Hockey League’s Centennial Classic game, when Loblaw bought out an entire commercial break on Sportsnet after the first period. The message of this emotionally-storied film is about how food can help create unity and community-building when people #EatTogether.

The film is getting lots of praise on social media. The unexpected (for a food retailer) use of emotional storytelling is a lovely, yet a subtle bit of flag-waving to help kick-off Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation this year. Did you see the article in the Globe & Mail?
